Thus, Irenaeus explains Ignatius’ enigmatic claim that Jesus Christ is the sacred text. As Irenaeus observes, to presume that Jesus Christ is the Son of God allows the reader of scripture to affirm a God “who does not use violent means to obtain what he desires; so that neither should justice be infringed upon, nor the ancient handiwork of God go to destruction.”[19] Such a hypothesis allows us to read the text as teaching an economy that is well sequenced rather than disordered.
